The Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) is a serial number introduced in the mid-2000s to replace Electronic Serial Numbers (ESNs), which were exhausted by November 2008. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, on the other hand, is used by your service provider to verify and feed the appropriate data signal to your phone. Warning
- Only devices manufactured before the ESN supply was exhausted will have an ESN number assigned. If your iPhone was manufactured after 2008, it will have an MEID instead.
